Boscombe

Boscombe is a wonderful seaside town on England’s sunny south coast, not far from Bournemouth. It claims that its seafront development boats one of the most innovative designs in Europe. The beach front complex here was originally designed in 1958 and is known as the Overstrand. After some modern developmental magic it now boasts a range of leisure facilities that cater for the holiday maker right through the year whatever the weather. Meeting both the needs of those who come here in the winter for the water sports and those that flock here in the summer to make the most of the incredible and award winning beach. The beach here stretches for a full seven miles and its twinkling golden sands have won the ‘Best Beach in Britain’ award. One unusual aspect of the Overstrand is that it is home to the most impressive beach hits anywhere in the UK, known as the Boscome Beach Pods they are a far cry from the rickety beach huts of days gone by.

Things to Do

Boscombe Pier has earned itself the title of being the ‘coolest pier in the UK’ from the way that it has been designed. From the end of the pier you get some spectacular views across to the Isle of Wight as well as the Isle of Purbeck. This is a great spot to cast your line into the sea and see what bites, or take a walk as the sun goes down. Across from the pier you will find the Boscombe Chine Gardens complete with a play area to let the kids blow off some steam and a mini golf course. During the summer you can catch the land train from the park and the pier, which will take you right across to the pier in neighbouring Bournemouth. There is plenty in the town centre to keep visitors happy from unique and independent shops and stores to bars and eateries.

Places to Visit

With Bournemouth so close it would make sense to head there too, to take advantage of more stunning beaches and the wonderful gardens and parks that the resort boasts, many of which have won awards. This is an area that is rich in history and there are plenty of ancient castles and churches for you to explore where you can get a real feel for the history of the area. Explore the local area on a tour and take in the sights of Stonehenge and the New Forest to discover why this part of the country is so popular with holidaymakers. If you are looking for a quiet escape head to the museums and art galleries or pay a visit to a stately home. Alternatively if you are looking for action and adventure head to the beach and try your hand at some water sports like kayaking or water skiing. If all that sounds like too much just lay back and relax on sand and listen to the waves lap the edge of the beach.
